John Delavan
LEED AP
Vice President of Preconstruction

A 25+ year industry veteran, John joined Riley in 2000 and played an integral role in establishing Riley’s dedicated Preconstruction Services Department. John earned a B.S. in Building Construction Management from Purdue University and is one of only a handful of holders of a Certificate of Management of Building Information Modeling through AGC in the state of Wisconsin.
John grew up in Rockford, Illinois and was originally drawn to his father’s career as an accountant. His interest in construction began in high school when he took a job as a carpenter working on home renovations, decks and gazebos. “I always enjoyed the planning, preparing, and assembly of construction,” he said. “I started my path in college in accounting, but when I found out that I could combine numbers with construction, I quickly switched to construction management.”
John and his wife have three grown boys with a wide spectrum of interests, as well as two guinea pigs. Although an Illinois native, John considers himself a Wisconsin outdoorsman. “I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, and anything outdoors,” he said “I am also an active volunteer in my Christian faith through regular service callings and assignments.”

WHY I LOVE WHAT I DO
“I love building construction and the complexity of building a project budget from very little information to a lot of information. It is always unique and involves a real team effort. I love the trust and long-term relationships we build as we work together to achieve something greater than ourselves.”
Fun Fact

“Prior to college, I served a mission for my church for two years in Guatemala and as a result, I’m fluent in Spanish.”
