John Delavan, LEED AP Vice President of Preconstruction

A 25+ year industry veteran, John joined Riley in 2000 and played an integral role in establishing a dedicated Preconstruction Services Department. John holds a B.S. in building construction management from Purdue University, and is one of only a handful of ASPE Certified Professional Estimators in the state of Wisconsin.

John grew up in Rockford, IL, and originally was drawn to his father’s career as an accountant. His interest in construction began in high school, when he took a job as a carpenter, remodeling decks and gazebos. “I always enjoyed the planning, preparing and assembly of construction,” he said. “I started my path in college in accounting, but when I found out that I could combine the numbers with construction, I changed to construction management.”

John and his wife have three boys with a wide spectrum of interests, as well as two guinea pigs. Although an Illinois native, John considers himself a Wisconsinite outdoorsman. “I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, and anything outdoors,” he said  “I am also an active volunteer in my Christian faith through regular service callings/assignments.”

Fun Fact? “Prior to college, I served a mission for my church for two years in Guatemala and as a result, I am fluent in Spanish.”
