Behind the Build – Chloe Slaven
Go Behind the Build with Chloe Slaven, Project Manager at Riley, as she shares her path into construction and how integrity and teamwork keep projects moving.
What’s the story of how you first found your way into construction?
“I was interested in construction as young as middle school. Our local schools offered woodworking and construction classes that I found myself in and excelling at early on and I ran with it. I love planning things out, problem-solving, and being able to watch things come to life in the field. I decided to go to college for engineering which allowed me to further explore the industry and find my place in project management.”
What drew you specifically to Riley Construction when you were exploring opportunities?
“The people at Riley and their reputation for doing things with integrity. I got the sense that the group took a lot of pride in their work and genuinely cared about doing things the right way.”
Was there a moment early on when you realized this industry was the right fit?
“I actually did my first internship for an engineering firm and realized that was the wrong fit for me and that I wanted to be more involved in the actual construction process. So, my second internship was with a construction firm, and I realized very quickly that this industry was where I wanted to be. Being able to see work come together and the impacts it has on the community has been wonderful.”
What does a “good day” on the job look like for you?
“A good day is a day where I can focus on proactive planning with our teams, and where both field and office work together to feel supported and prep for upcoming work. I appreciate the days where we can step back slightly and see the project moving forward safely and efficiently.”
What accomplishments are you most proud of in your time at Riley?
“This job isn’t typically easy, and I am proud of myself and our teams for pushing through the hard days/weeks and moving ahead to deliver a project that we are proud to say we were a part of. I’m also proud of the relationships built over the years (with clients, coworkers, field partners, etc.) as they contribute to my and our long-term success.”
