The team at Riley Construction poured their hearts into creating a hands-on workshop to help local Girl Scouts earn their STEM Career Exploration Badge and learn about potential careers in construction.
This troop of future female leaders learned STEM skills and boosted their confidence through three hands-on stations:
- Sketch Up – Designing your dream bedroom using this popular construction technology taught the girls how to plan and then be flexible with their design.
- Concrete Forms – The girls learned how to mix concrete and carefully pour it into molds to create geometric forms or candle holders.
- Windy City – After learning a bit about physics and structural engineering, these future engineers designed and then built an 18” structure to support a ball and withstand blasts of wind.
The Girl Scouts had fun while we opened their eyes to STEM and the world of construction. While more women are exploring work on construction crews, there are so many different types of construction career options for women that leverage interest in math, engineering, design, marketing and business.
Nurturing the next generation of female leaders was a great way to celebrate Women in Construction!
And, we made the news on CBS 58!
